Tanzania, well known around the world as the home of Kilimanjaro is currently one of the most popular of all safari destinations in Africa. Tanzania was formed out of 2 nation-states and now offers everything from incredible white sandy beaches to wildlife that you will never forget. In order to highlight some things that you will love, here are the things to do in Tanzania.
Visit The Serengeti National Park

This one is arguably the most popular of all Tanzania’s tourist attractions. It is really well known as a big game safari. That is mainly due to the fact that there is an annual migration of zebras and wildebeest noticed. You should seriously consider a May visit since that is where the migration starts. The wildlife show is definitely spectacular.
Visit Ruaha National Park

Ruaha is right in the heart of Tanzania. It is the largest of all the national parks that can be found in the country and you can easily come across elephants, leopards, lions, wild dogs, impala, giraffes, zebras or jackals. You get the opportunity of experiencing nature in a close environment and you will love the fact that there are not too many tourists to bother you.
The Selous Game Reserve

Here you can see a lot more savanna animals than anywhere else in the country because of government regulations. Many of the visitors will arrive via plane. You will love the fact that river trips and walking tours are allowed. In addition, no permanent structures or human habitation is allowed.
Mafia Island

Mafia Island is smaller than popular attraction Pemba but it is also a part of Spice Islands. The population here is of around 40,000 and although the name can be a little deceiving, there is absolutely no organized crime present. The name is just similar. Here you can enjoy game fishing and scuba diving while also being able to relax on wonderful sandy beaches. If in the area, make sure that you also consider Pemba as it is less crowded than the really popular Zanzibar. You can also enjoy marine life here with great scuba diving locations.
Lake Manyara

During the wet season, you will be able to see around 300 migratory bird species. This includes thousands of lovely flamingos. During the dry season you can also enjoy various different wonderful animals since there are various mammals like elephants, giraffes, wildebeests and hippos. Different safari lodges are available and you can enjoy various safaris.
Mount Kilimanjaro

We cannot mention the things to do in Tanzania without a mention of Kilimanjaro. The inactive volcano nested peak is the highest in Africa and houses the highest of all free-standing mountains around the world. It is located really close to the equator but the snow-capped peak will make everything incredibly attractive, a top tourist attraction for all interested trekkers and mountaineers.
As always, such a list is always subjective. Did you visit Tanzania? If so, what was the favorite attraction that you enjoyed? We would love to hear about it. Maybe we will get to enjoy it one day.
